Have you ever wondered what goes into making your favorite mascots come to life?
Jennifer Smith spends her time planning, measuring and sewing in her Avant Garb studio in Indianapolis. In the 70s, she fell in love with the wearable art movement in Seattle and started bringing these creatures to life.
"Mascots called my name," she said. "They said, please, please, we need to be made, and so here I am."
Now with her daughter Annie, she constructs some local favorites.
"We made Cleveland Cavalier, we make Rowdie, we make Rex for the Children's Museum, and we are working on Hoosier Buddy right now," she said.
The furry figures rack up a price tag from $5,000 to $15,000 or more.
Smith says some of her mascots only take about three days to make. Others can take much, much longer.
