Nextgen and STS have announced a partnership which could potentially change the landscape of live high-quality broadcasts in the Media and Entertainment sector, particularly major sporting events in both domestic and international markets.
The partnership is based on Nextgen’s strength in delivering an ultra-high capacity network with complementary data centre services, coupled with STS’s heritage in live broadcast transmission services over satellite and fixed-line data links since 2004.
The agreement includes both traditional live broadcast services as well as efficient and agile connectivity options for sporting and non-sporting broadcast events, short-term production runs or long-term permanent broadcast connections using Nextgen’s 20,000Km fibre network.
The agreement also allows STS to offer more advanced capabilities and interconnectivity with major cloud platforms to support growing OTT services for its new and existing client base.
STS will manage the Nextgen Video Network for broadcast transmissions of multiple sporting events from 17 stadiums around the country, enabled by Nextgen’s inter-capital fibre network. STS has also been nominated Nextgen’s preferred channel partner for the Broadcast Media sector.
STS chose Nextgen as its national infrastructure partner because of the quality of its carrier-grade network footprint, which supports the highest quality live video carriage and provides flexibility to deliver and fulfil all broadcast media traffic requirements into the future.
As a result of the partnership, STS will have full access to Nextgen’s 100Gbps core-enabled network into more than 90 data centres across Australia, its metro access network and the company’s full product suite, including the market-leading Metronode data centre facilities, now totalling 10 across the nation.
Managed by Nextgen Wholesale division, the alliance ensures STS can meet its clients’ permanent and flexible traffic requirements.
Nextgen has also recently announced its media access network (MaN ) enabling national connectivity into major cloud platforms and data centres providing flexible usage and port-based Ethernet services, intra and inter-state, up to 100Gbps.
Nextgen’s recently completed 100Gbps core network upgrade will enable STS to deliver scale and future- proofed connectivity.
General Manager, Nextgen Wholesale, James Veness, said: “This agreement allows Sydney Teleport to supply a full service offering to its clients comprised of broadcast content, high-quality connectivity, coupled with flexible carrier-grade, on-demand bandwidth and cloud services.”
Sydney Teleport Services, Managing Director, Scott Jenkins, commented: “We are delighted to announce this partnership with Nextgen because they have a very strong, proven track record in delivering a robust and secure network throughout Australia.
“We look forward to building this relationship further and securing more opportunities well into the future,” he said.
