Russian satellite operator Oriin Express has signed an agreement to broadcast and play-out services of the Signal Media International TV package in Kazakhstan, reports Tdaily.ru. The package, including Russian TV channels, Mult, My Planet, Science, T24, Mommy and Really Terrible TV, is already being broadcast in the country but the new agreement is necessary in order to adapt to the new Kazakhstan law that bans advertising on foreign TV channels. Editorial content will replace advertising on the TV channels transmitted by Orion Express.
Some Kazakhstan operators have already adapted to the new legal environment excluding advertising from foreign TV channels, some operators have stopped the broadcast of foreign TV channels.
Kazakhstan's pay-TV subscriber base totaled around 1.5 million households at the end of 2014, according to a study from J'son & Partners. The market penetration was 31 percent. It is expected that the figures will grow to 2.7 million households and 50 percent, respectively, by 2018.
