University of Richmond football and men’s basketball radio broadcasts are powering up with a move up the FM dial. Beginning this fall, all Spider games will be heard on 107.3, BBT, Alpha Media’s Greatest Hits station in Richmond.
This marks the tenth consecutive year that Richmond Athletics and Spider IMG Sports Marketing have partnered with an Alpha Media FM radio station to provide an enhanced coverage area for Spider broadcasts. ESPN 950-AM remains the flagship station for all Spider games and coaches shows, also for the tenth consecutive year.
“We feel this is a great fit for fans and listeners of Spider football and men’s basketball,” said Paul Johnson, Market Manager for Alpha Media Richmond. “107.3 BBT is a strong signal that will provide a wider audience reach in the areas with the heaviest concentration of Spider supporters. We also think this will help attract new fans. We hope they will enjoy our Greatest Hits music format, too.”
The multi-year agreement provides for Spider programming and promotional opportunities throughout the day with 107.3 BBT’s live and local on-air personalities.
“We’re thrilled to continue, and enhance, our relationship with Paul, his staff and Alpha Media,” said Bob Black, Richmond’s Director of Broadcast and Voice of the Spiders. “Our fans will be able to easily access and enjoy the broadcasts throughout Central Virginia with a powerful FM station and a local all-sports AM station.”
In addition to traditional radio, Spider broadcasts will be streamed live free of charge on RichmondSpiders.com, 1073bbt.com and espn950am.com, as well as on mobile devices and tablets.
The first broadcast is Saturday September 3, when the defending CAA Football champion and national semifinalist Spiders, ranked third nationally in the preseason, kick off the 2016 season at Virginia. The broadcast team of Bob Black, Chris Anderson and Matt Smith returns to provide play-by-play and analysis, plus on-field and locker room coverage. Air time on the Spider IMG Sports Network is 3pm.
