Ukraine's President Petro Poroshenko signed a law introducing publicly funded TV broadcasting on Tuesday, April 7, Ukrainian news agency TSN reports.
"Friends, public television will be in Ukraine!"President said before signing the document.
Poroshenko said that Ukraine is now 'seeking to establish a publicly funded TV channel similar to BBC.'
Parliament voted for the law on establishing public broadcasting on March 19. It provides for the establishment of the National Public Broadcasting Company, independent from government and the president, on the basis of national and regional government TV and radio companies.
