LG Electronics USA is partnering with Discovery Communications on unique new content, featured on Discovery Digital Networks and Science Channel, offering viewers an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the most ground-breaking innovations and the innovators behind them.
The new custom content, inspired by LG's revolutionary OLED TV display technology that is bringing the future of television to consumers today, will take viewers into a never-before-seen world of sci-fi-level inventions, including a first-ever inside look at the making of LG OLED TV. OLED TV is an entirely new category of television that has been hailed by industry experts and consumers alike as the "best picture ever" with perfect blacks and incredible color, even from wide viewing angles unlike any LCD/LED TV can deliver.
"LG innovations bring technologies of the future to consumers today, so it made perfect sense to team up with Discovery's top-notch digital team to raise awareness for these products that will truly make a difference in peoples' lives," said David VanderWaal, vice president of marketing, LG Electronics USA. "This new content series will feed viewers' voracious curiosity of new technologies and show them that the future of TV technology is available today with LG OLED TV."
"Discovery Communications is a leader in innovative and impactful digital solutions, led by premium digital video offerings across our web-native and TV networks-aligned businesses, and we're thrilled to partner with LG Electronics to tell their story to our passionate fan base of influencers, tech enthusiasts and curiosity seekers," added Harold Morgenstern, senior vice president, digital ad sales, Discovery Communications.
Discovery Spotlights Innovation
At the heart of the new content is Discovery Digital Networks' popular Test Tube series In the Making, hosted by engineer Dr. Mike North. In an episode debuting on October 15, Dr. North visits LG Display's OLED panel factory to give viewers a never-before-seen look at what goes into producing OLED displays.
LG was the first to introduce large-screen OLED TV and remains the only company offering an entire lineup of OLED TVs today. This level of access to its production facilities and experts made available through the Discovery collaboration is unprecedented.
Forthcoming episodes of In the Making will follow North as he hits the road to discover genius backyard innovators that are creating technologies of the future, such as Mod Bot's industrial quality robot building blocks and LookSee's solid silver jewelry bracelet with customizable smart display.
LG and Discovery also will take viewers through the evolution of TV, highlighting the awe-inspiring and rapidly changing TV display technology with a series of custom webisodes and blog features across ScienceChannel.com and Discovery Digital Networks' TechnoBuffalo.
The Science Channel's inSCIder blog will discuss "Evolving Technology and the Art of Being Human" and feature a "listicle" on the "Ten TV Milestones" over the past decades – from vacuum tubes to color, remote controls and more. Additionally, TechnoBuffalo unboxed and reviewed an OLED TV giving its audience of tech enthusiasts an overview of the awe-inspiring of LG OLED TV.
OLED TV Category Expands
This LG-Discovery collaboration comes on the heels of LG's latest addition to its OLED family of televisions – the EF9500 flat OLED 4K TV series. The EF9500 series represents the world's first flat 4K Ultra HD resolution OLED TV. What's more, the EF9500 series is the world's first HDR-capable OLED TV, allowing consumers to display HDR content from both streaming content partners and external source devices.
The introduction of this series marks a significant milestone in the expansion of LG's OLED TV portfolio, tripling the number of models in less than a year. LG now offers OLED TVs in 55-, 65-, and 77-inch class sizes, both curved and flat configurations, and 1080p and 4K resolutions at prices starting at $1,999.
