Sinclair Broadcast Group, Inc., one of the largest and most diversified American television broadcasting companies, has selected the iTX integrated playout platform, GV STRATUS Playout and a host of infrastructure solutions from Grass Valley, a Belden Brand, to transform its playout operation for future growth and efficiency.
In selecting Grass Valley’s integrated solution, Sinclair Broadcast Group will become more operationally efficient with a single, flexible system that can grow with the individual needs of Sinclair’s stations. The company has invested in updating six stations, four of which are already on air with iTX. And for some of its channels, Sinclair has also opted to use GV STRATUS Playout, Grass Valley’s cloud-based playout control solution. It provides a lightweight and flexible framework to insert local commercials into national content, providing the most relevant programming to each market.
“After thoroughly evaluating all of the solutions on the market, we have concluded that Grass Valley’s integrated solution and infrastructure for playout best meet our needs today and in the future,” said Del Parks, senior vice president and chief technology officer for Sinclair’s Television Group. “iTX allows us to automate routine tasks like media import from Pitch Blue and Pathfire and the segmenting and renaming according to our business rules. This streamlines our operations and allows us to focus on more productive efforts, such as growing revenue through the addition of local advertisements in specific markets—something we believe GV STRATUS Playout can help us with.”
The iTX platform extends control of upstream systems for Sinclair such as NVISION routers and facilitates multichannel monitoring by enabling Kaleido multiviewers to perform proactive channel monitoring. With Vertigo XG branding inside iTX, it’s easy to generate high-quality graphics and feature data-driven channel branding, while the Densité modular platform offers signal management solutions for single-function applications or processing thousands of signals.
GV STRATUS Playout is a unique, cloud-enabled Software as a Service (SaaS) solution that uses true cloud computing to centrally manage the regionalization of channels and commercials by Densité SSP-3801 solid-state playout modules located at the edge of the broadcast network. The small size and power requirements, combined with the simple deployment, make this cloud-enabled solution ideal for broadcasters interested in providing targeted, relevant programming to viewers across multiple regions and markets.
“Grass Valley offers a scalable playout solution without compromising quality, flexibility or control,” said Mike Cronk, senior vice president of strategic marketing, Grass Valley. “Our integration capabilities with iTX and GV STRATUS Playout are vital to Sinclair’s growth, and we’ve already seen great success with our partnership and implementation plan thus far.”
