Sword & Scale, the South Florida-based true crime internet radio show, announced today that Dave Navarro, alternative rock superstar and host of Spike TV's Ink Master, is featured on the show's 60th episode, released this morning on swordandscale.com and iTunes.
Dave recently executive produced Mourning Son, a documentary about the murder of his mother, Constance Navarro, and the eight-year search for her killer – a search that coincided with Dave's rise to international prominence as lead guitarist for Jane's Addiction, one of the world's most influential alternative rock bands.
Sword & Scale Episode 60 examines what Dave has described as the darkest moment of his life and explores the fear and paranoia he felt each day in knowing that, while he toured the world with Jane's Addiction, his mother's killer was still out there, somewhere.
Constance and her friend Sue Jory were murdered by Constance's former boyfriend, John Riccardi, in March 1983. Riccardi was arrested in 1991 thanks to a viewer tip after Riccardi was featured on the television series America's Most Wanted. He is currently serving life in a California prison after his original death sentence was overturned in 2012.
"Having Dave Navarro on the show, a person who I have looked up to since I was just a teenager, demonstrates very clearly that no one is immune to the danger and violence that can impact any one of our lives," said Sword & Scale's creator and host Mike Boudet. "Domestic violence is a problem that affects one out of every four women and one out of every seven men in this country. We need to stand together and make the reality of this problem known to everyone, before it claims yet another victim."
In Sword & Scale Episode 60, Mike also speaks with Cameka Crawford, Chief Communications Officer at the National Domestic Violence Hotline and steering committee member for NOMORE.org. Cameka sheds additional light on the epidemic of domestic violence in the United States and the fight to stop it.
Sword & Scale explores true crime like no other radio show dares to.
Created and hosted by South Florida native Mike Boudet, Sword & Scale has become one of the world's leading independent true crime podcasts in just over two years since its launch on January 1, 2014. It regularly surpasses 130,000 downloads per episode and exceeded 11 million downloads over the course of 2015. The internet radio show has just embarked on its third season following a successful online fundraising campaign in December.
Sword & Scale has been praised for its production quality and skillful use of 911 tapes, court testimony, interviews with victims, and sometimes even interviews with perpetrators, to give its listeners a unique 360-degree perspective on the stories it covers – and a deeper insight than can be offered through any other medium.
It is one of the first independent true crime podcasts to rank among the 50 most downloaded shows on iTunes, reaching as high as number 37 in recent weeks – a notable achievement considering that it is not affiliated with any traditional news service or media outlet (a January 2015 article in Entertainment Weekly estimated that there were more than 285,000 active podcasts, in over 100 languages, at the time).
