Hughes Network Systems, LLC, (Hughes) an EchoStar company, announced today the successful launch of its Hughes 63W Ka-band payload on board the Telstar 19 VANTAGE satellite (Telstar 19V). With this new capacity of high-performance satellites (High-Throughput Satellite, or HTS) in South America, Hughes will offer HughesNet broadband services to businesses and residences, network services managed by companies, backhaul for mobile network operators and Wi-Fi solutions for community networks that will allow governments to bridge the digital divide. Built by Space Systems Loral (SSL) for Telesat, a leading satellite operator worldwide, the Telstar 19V was launched aboard a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket from Cape Canaveral, Florida .

Hughes will deploy its state-of-the-art JUPITER ™ System technology for the ground system and equipment at the customer's facilities, in order to deliver broadband services to Hughes 63W. The JUPITER System supports a wide range of applications, including broadband Internet services for consumer companies and small and medium enterprises, Wi-Fi for community networks, mobile backhaul, managed and mobile network services, including for aeronautical services.

Hughes 63W provides significant capacity to five Latin American countries, reaching more than 90% of the people in Chile , Ecuador and Peru. In Brazil, where the HughesNet satellite Internet service is already available through the Hughes 65W capacity, the new payload will complement the existing service and offer connectivity to more than 90% of Brazilians. In Colombia , the new Hughes 63W capacity will improve the broadband connectivity provided through the company's JUPITER 2 satellite to reach more than 96% of Colombians.

It is anticipated that services through Hughes 63W will begin at the beginning of the fourth quarter of 2018, after Telesat and SSL complete the orbital launch test and the operating test in orbit of Telstar 19V. Hughes has signed a 15-year agreement with Telesat for the Ka-band capability.
