New Broadcasting Tower in Tokyo

Project Overview
NHK Broadcasting Center and five commercial television broadcasters in Tokyo have planned to build a new radio and television transmitter dubbed New Tokyo Tower in Sumida Ward, Tokyo, Japan. The Shin-Tokyo Tower Corporation in undertaking the construction of the tower with an estimated construction cost of 50 million yen.


Project Details
The construction of the tower will commence in 2008 with two-way communications planned to commence by July 2011. The tower is to be over 600 metres in height, to stand as the tallest manmade structure in Japan enabling convenient digital transmission over high-rises. It will be built along the railway shunting lines in Sumida Ward. New Tokyo Tower is aimed to bring about a switchover from analog to digital broadcasting. The antenna will be placed at the highest point in the world and it will be equipped with the latest technology for data transmission to all sorts of electronic devices like television, mobile phones, personal computers etc.
